About TB Alert
TB Alert and Healthunlocked have produced this website for people affected by tuberculosis (TB) in England, as part of The Truth About TB programme.
The site is a hub for the TB Action Group (TBAG), a network of people affected by TB in the UK – though you do not need to be a TBAG member to join this site. TBAG members provide peer support for people undergoing TB treatment: through this website, by telephone, or in person as part of their bi-monthly meetings. To find out more about joining the group, please email Tessa Marshall (tessa.marshall@tbalert.org) or call 01273 234770.
TB Action Group members also provide consultation on the development of TB services. This is an important part of The Truth About TB programme, which brings together the NHS, local government and the third sector to raise awareness about TB. The programme aims to ensure that the patient perspective is heard by TB policy makers and service providers – and acted upon. This site gives you the opportunity to share your insights on the TB journey in a safe and secure forum.
You may also like to visit our sister site, The Truth About TB, which answers your most common queries about TB. From risk factors and symptoms, to treatment and how to keep your loved ones safe. Visit it here: www.thetruthabouttb.org.
Medical advice:
This site aims to provide general support and guidance to those affected by TB – it is not a substitute for professional medical advice.
TB Alert is the only specialist charity that tackles tuberculosis in the UK and internationally. We work to raise awareness of TB, especially among people most at risk of the illness, so that they recognise the symptoms, get diagnosed quickly and are cured.
TB Alert developed The Truth About TB programme as the Department of Health’s lead partner in delivering TB awareness in the UK, to meet the objectives set out in the TB Action Plan (2004) and TB Commissioning Toolkit (2007). (You can read the documents here: www.dh.gov.uk/prod_consum_d... and here: www.dh.gov.uk/prod_consum_d...)
In addition to our work in the UK, we also work in India and southern Africa. To find out more about the charity visit the TB Alert website: www.tbalert.org.
